From marketing at racing circuits to marketing in a pandemic – a look at Marketing Executive Alice Harfleet's two years at GardX

Firstly, I’d like to introduce myself, I’m Alice, Marketing Executive here at GardX and am the face behind the company social channels, alongside a range of other roles such as video and digital content creation. With my recent two-year work anniversary, I have taken the time to look back at my first two years with the company, one pre-pandemic and one in the height of it. To say they have been a little different than imagined would be an understatement to say the least. I’m also an avid reader, biscuit eater and am passionate about the environment… some of which you may pick up on as you read further.

It was pretty clear as soon as I joined the company that there is a real family feel which runs throughout all departments and at all levels; something that many companies claim but does not always transpire. 2019 saw lots of big and exciting projects from creating videos for some of our biggest clients, headlining at CDX to watching Team BMW become the 2019 BTCC champions to name a few. GardX is a company that really supports their employees, and I can say I have felt that first-hand with the business allowing me to attend training courses to further skills in areas that I want to progress in.

I began my second year at GardX as we entered into the first lockdown and the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, and what a different year it was about to be.

With March 2020 throwing us a change of location, we went from our offices, with their top tier biscuit selection, to the makeshift workspaces made in kitchens, spare rooms and dinner tables. But with daily morning meetings with the Marketing Team, we were able to adapt to the changing times and work more efficiently than ever whilst keeping that ‘teamwork makes the dream work’ mentality (a saying for which if my colleagues had £1 for every time I said it, they’d be millionaires).

In the midst of the pandemic the business stepped forward building upon the KleenAir Sanitisation range with KleenAir Bio Steri-7, a product that not only protects customers and employees by killing up to 99.99% of germs and bacteria but is also environmentally conscious. The clever re-usable head and convenient refill solution further asserts the Steri-7 flarisol as the more responsible option, allowing you to move away from the environmental hazards of conventional aerosols. Another exciting project that I’ve been extremely proud to work on in my second year at GardX is our movement from print to online brochures, another small victory for the environmentalist in me, but also one that benefits our dealers and their customers too. With average UK resident spending 3 hours and 23 minutes on their phone per day, you can send our GardX digital brochures straight to their mobile device therefore increasing the likeliness that a customer will truly engage with the information you supply to them. And of course, reducing waste and minimising the impact on deforestation is always a win!

When I accepted my role in 2019, I was incredibly excited having landed a dream role in the industry I’ve always loved, and I remember someone telling me to give it six months and the excitement would have worn off and I wouldn’t feel the same. Two years later, I still feel the same excitement to work every day and I can’t see that changing any time soon.

It’s crazy to think how much you can achieve from that makeshift desk in your spare room, but I look forward to the day where we are back in the office and I’ll be reunited with my colleagues (and beloved biscuits) again.
